The Director General (DG) of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), Capt. Musa Nuhu has assured the public that the NCAA is well prepared for the upcoming International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Universal Safety Oversight Audit Programme (USOAP) Continuous Monitoring Approach (CMA) scheduled for the first quarter of 2022.

The NCAA boss divulged this in a speech presented by his representative Mr. Lulufa Vongtau, AGM, Air Transport, NCAA, during the opening ceremony of the League of Airports and Aviation Correspondence (LAAC) Training at the Nigerian College of Aviation Technology (NCAT), Zaria, Kaduna recently.

He called on stakeholders to collaborate with NCAA to support its efforts in ensuring that the audit is a success, and asked that the media avoid writing sensational stories, as these can damage the reputation of Nigeria – a situation which will only put the nation in a bad place.

“From now on, all your reports are very sensitive. Let us eschew sensationalism capable of putting the nation in bad light. Therefore, I will advise everyone to endeavor to verify and confirm his/her stories before publishing, if in doubt. It is my view that your watchdog role plays a very important part in fostering stability in the industry. These balancing, developmental and promotional stories are the hallmark of a burgeoning aviation industry like ours. Let us present our aviation industry as the most improved that it is,” said the NCAA boss.

The DG went on to note that NCAA is set to excel again in the forthcoming ICAO audit as it has done in the past, as excellence is in keeping with the Authority’s track record of implementing high standards. It is due to the adherence to these high standards, he said, that the industry has not recorded accidents on commercial flight operation in eight years.
