The International Air Transport Association (IATA) and Embry Riddle Aeronautical University (ERAU) are set to jointly launch a Master of Business Administration in Aviation (MBAA), in addition to a separate certificate in Airline Management.
According to IATA’s Senior Vice President for Commercial Products & Services, Frederic Leger, “As aviation rebuilds from the COVID-19 crisis, laying the foundation for the workforce of the future is essential. Companies across the aviation value chain are recruiting once again and hence the importance of having programs in place which will provide the right skill set for the talent of the future. By partnering with one of the most renowned academic institutions in aviation – Embry Riddle, we are pleased to offer a course tailored to those seeking a career in airline management.”
On his part, Dr. Maneesh Sharma, Dean of ERAU’s College of Business on the worldwide campus, said: “ERAU has developed a groundbreaking MBA program in Airline Management with a highly reliable organization theme.”
He went on to add that the partnership with IATA to create the Airline Management Certificate will boost students’ leadership career as they weave through the aviation industry and beyond, considering the fact that both IATA and ERAU are key players in the global air transport sector.
According to a statement by IATA, the virtual program which will commence as from October 2022 will be offered in three (03) blocks of thirty-six (36) credit hours, covering carefully selected aspects of aviation.
The first block will focus on “the importance of creating high reliability organizations by teaching the fundamentals of risk, managing risk and creating resiliency.” The second block will address core business activities; while the third block will concentrate on an aviation specialization in commercial management, with a focal point on various airline business models and revenue management strategies.
In effect, according to IATA, “The program applies modern business concepts, methods and tools to the challenges and specifics of the aviation business, creating an academic degree which combines core business competences with a strong aviation foundation.”
