Overland Airways, Nigeria’s longest-serving private domestic airline, is excited to announce the launch of new direct flight services between Lagos (LOS), Nigeria, and Freetown, Sierra Leone (FNA). Starting from December 19, 2024, travelers can enjoy three weekly flights that make regional travel more convenient and enjoyable.

The new service aims to boost regional trade, tourism, and cultural exchanges between Nigeria and Sierra Leone. Flights will depart from Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos, every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday at 2:00 PM, arriving at Freetown International Airport (FIA) by 3:45 PM. This schedule is designed to accommodate travelers from Abuja and other Nigerian cities, making it easier for them to connect to Freetown.

Operated by Overland Airways’ brand-new Embraer E-175 jet aircraft, the route offers a dual-class configuration with Premium class seats featuring spacious legroom and the regular Economy class, ensuring a comfortable journey for all passengers. “We are excited to expand our network to the West African coast and offer direct flight services to Freetown,” said Mrs. Aderonke Emmanuel-James, Commercial and Corporate Risk Manager. “This new service will facilitate easier travel for business and leisure travelers and strengthen existing regional ties.”

The introduction of the Embraer E-175 jets is part of Overland Airways’ strategic plan to enhance its service offerings. In August 2024, the airline commenced direct flight services between Lagos and Abuja, and in October 2024, it renewed its IOSA certification for the fifth consecutive time, reaffirming its position as a leading African carrier. “Sierra Leone is emerging as the next business and tourism destination in West Africa, and Overland Airways is pleased to support this ambition,” said Mrs. Aduke Atiba, Executive Director of Overland Airways.

Capt. Boyo, the Chief Executive Officer, highlighted the broader vision behind this expansion, stating, “Opening this new route aligns with the objective of the Single African Air Transport Market (SAATM) to liberalize air transport services and improve connectivity in Africa. Overland Airways is proud to be at the forefront of this initiative.”
