The International Air Transport Association (IATA) has revealed the venue of its next Annual General Meeting (AGM) and World Air Transport Summit: the buzzing city of Shanghai, in China. The two-day conference has been scheduled for 19 – 21 June, 2022.

The Director General of IATA, Willie Walsh expressed his pleasure at the prospect of this next convention and his admiration for the resilience of the aviation market in the People’s Republic of China when he said:

“We look forward to gathering the aviation industry in Shanghai for the 78th IATA AGM. China is a dynamic aviation market, with its domestic travel among the fastest to recover from the damage brought by COVID-19. We are delighted to be able to bring the AGM to China again.”

The Chairman of China Eastern Airlines, Liu Shaoyong, also expressed his airline’s anticipation at hosting, again, an event of such prominence, recalling that this will be the third time aviation professionals across the globe will be gracing China for the event; the other two times being Beijing (2012) and then Shanghai (2002):

“China Eastern Airlines is excited to host the IATA AGM and to welcome our industry colleagues to our home city of Shanghai. In the twenty years since the AGM was last held in Shanghai, the city has completely changed. We look forward to showcasing our vibrant city and warm Chinese hospitality”, he said.

Shanghai was again chosen as host city for this auspicious event at the recently concluded 77th IATA AGM and World Transport Summit which was held in Boston, USA.
