TAAG Angola Airlines, Angola’s flag carrier, has taken delivery of its first A220-300 aircraft, marking a significant milestone in the implementation of the airline’s growth strategy. The cutting-edge aircraft was unveiled during a ceremony at Luanda’s 4 de Fevereiro International Airport, attended by customers, shareholders, partners, government officials and diplomatic representatives.

In line with TAAG’s 2024-2029 expansion plan, sources say the recently acquired jet leased from Air Lease Corporation (ALC) will operate high-demand domestic routes and intra-African connections.

The aircraft boasts a 137-seat capacity, comprising 12 business class and 125 economy class seats. Passengers will enjoy a superior flying experience thanks to the A220’s spacious cabin, large windows, and advanced features. Its impressive 28m³ cargo capacity and fuel efficiency – 25% lower per seat than previous generations – make it an attractive addition to TAAG’s fleet.

The jet also showcases TAAG’s refreshed branding, featuring the iconic PALANCA (black antelope) symbol on its tail and winglets, alongside a color scheme inspired by traditional Angolan textiles.

The introduction of the A220-300 to TAAG Angola Airlines’ fleet mirrors the growing trend of African carriers investing in modern, fuel-efficient aircraft. It is a notable step forward in the materialization of the airline’s expansion plans, bolstering its capacity for domestic and regional operations, and marks a significant development in the East African nation’s aviation sector; underscoring the country’s efforts to enhance regional connectivity as well as economic growth.
